Bluebirds are back in town
Dropped by for a surprise visit this morning. Sure was nice to see them again. Wasn’t sure if they would be back. Same pair it seems. I put out some mealworms but they didn’t seem to be hungry at the time.

How cool Kip! Its always nice to see the birds back again after being away during the summer. Hopefully, they will nest again next year in your yard!
Bye the way, that recording you have posted of the bluebird in the nestbox above is from earlier this year, isnt it?
Now why would I do that? That would be boring.
No, that footage was taken on Sept 29th, two days ago. Here’s the link to the “recorded show”: http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/749986
I guess they just dropped-in for a look-see. Haven’t seen them since…
Hi Kip!
Sorry. I just had noticed that it had grass in its bill while in the nest box and it looked like it was looking for a place to nest, but i didnt think they nested this late in the season so maybe they were looking for a place to sleep
for the night. Thanks for the great video! I think its exciting to see them back again even for just that brief time.
How great to see another bluebird back! Thanks!!
Kip,
We were at the Cleveland house this past weekend and I was amazed at the number of bluebirds in my back yard. Their colors were vivid. The few down here in Valdosta aren’t near as brightly colored.
I can see some bluebird houses in our future once we get moved up there.
Several hummers around, too. They fly into the garage to check out the release cord on the door opener (red).
Hi Kip!
I just clicked on your site just in time to see the bluebirds on top of the house and in the box!! Right around
11:50am your time. How very cool!!!
Ron, I noticed the bluebirds in Hilton Head did not seem to be as vibrant, but they were abundant–lots of singing going on in the trees. My two hummers that hung around this summer have hit the road. We had a big American Flag hanging on the deck and it was cool to see them darting around the flapping flag.
Stephanie, glad you caught them! I captured some video of them both in the house. They were quite chatty this morning. I heard them with the doors/windows closed and fired-up the cam. They must have needed a private place to gossip (or argue).
Thanks for the video! I missed this one with both of them in there but i did click on the bluebird box cam in time to see one of them in there with grass in his mouth. Maybe they were arguing over who was going to sleep in there tonight.
Hee hee hee!!

I thought that odd. At first I thought they were practicing-by-instinct for Spring, but perhaps it’s just the male offering flowers and chocolates when times are tough: “Doesn’t it feel like Spring honey; doesn’t this just take you back? C’mon in, relax. It IS Spring don’t ya know…”.
It never works!
Maybe their on their 2nd honeymoon!lol
Hi Kip,
Are you having problems with your cam? I noticed the the streaming cam hasn’t been on for a few days and i was just curious…
Hope you get it worked out!
Talk to ya soon!
I hadn’t checked it in awhile. Rebooted and seems to be working now. Thanks for letting me know Stephanie!
Your welcome Kip!
Thanks for rebooting!
Just happened to see a blue coming out of the house just now. Maybe looking for a place to winter over? Looked like a male, but not sure.
Happy New Year, Kip! I had a surprise visit from a group of bluebirds (not sure if they are the same ones that nested in my box last year) over the holidays. I was really shocked to see them on a cold winter day in Michigan, but I guess some winter over up here, too.
Happy New Year!
Are they taking any food? I read they’ll take berries & suet in winter but I haven’t seen it yet. My pair drop in every week or so for a home inspection. They’ll come on cold days but not if it’s cloudy/raining. They seem to have no interest in eating.
